![]() Gags, rooted in old cartoon slapstick humor, were weapons used to destroy the Cogs in Cog battles. Toons began with basic 'Gags' and a 15-point 'Laff' meter and had a maximum of 137 point Laff meter at the end of the game. Cogs came in four types: brown-clad Bossbots, blue-clad Lawbots, green-clad Cashbots, and maroon-clad Sellbots, each with increasing levels throughout the game that increased their health and damage. "Cogs" were the antagonists in-game, stylized to be corporate robots that wanted to take over the town to propagate business culture. Players were able to customize their Toons in various shapes, colors, clothes, and sizes, as well as their species, with choices consisting of cats, dogs, ducks, mice, pigs, rabbits, bears, horses, and monkeys. Players could create characters called "Toons". The most popular of these, Toontown Rewritten, was created some days after Toontown Online’s closure. Since the game’s closure, various fan servers have been created using most of the game’s original assets. Various servers hosting Toontown Online were shut down throughout the game’s tenure, with the US servers and the game itself closing in September 2013. Players created characters known as Toons and used weapons referred to as Gags-commonly slapstick comedy items, such as a thrown cream pie-to fight and destroy Cogs, robot businessmen who served as the game’s antagonists. ![]() Toontown Online, commonly known as Toontown, was a 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on a cartoon animal world, developed by Disney's Virtual Reality Studio and Schell Games, and published by The Walt Disney Company. A situation like this is never easy to handle, and being the man in the middle isn't easy work either, but I just want to make sure this community remains a safe place for kids and adults alike, and so we don't get taken down due to actions that could have been prevented. I apologize if this decision has impacted anyone especially negatively, but my hand was forced when this was brought to me today. This was a very hard decision for me to personally make alongside my team, as I did work on the server for a couple years and had grown to appreciate the work they had done and what I had contributed, along with the friends I had made over my years of being in my position here as lead subreddit mod. I do understand that my post sounds very "PR Standoff-ish" and it doesn't even seem like I wrote it, but I did. I personally left before I was brought into the loop of the situation, mainly leaving today due to inactivity plus inability to hold anymore positions like I was in as one of the senior support members. I was approached with NSFW screenshots of both users in the game preforming "acts" of NSFW nature, alongside incriminating screenshots from staff of the game. I've had some PMs regarding the situation so I believe that I should clarify why I came to the decision I did after some deliberation. Thank you for continously putting your faith and trust in the Moderation team here at /r/Toontown, as your safety and the health of the community is of upmost concern. ![]() We also strongly advise all members of the Toontown community to stay away from the server until everything is sorted out by their staff. We heavily advise, for the involved party's privacy and for the overall health of the community, to not press the issue and avoid any sort of temptations to stir up gossip or dig for information. Any discussion will lead to removal of posts/comments with rule 7 about spam in mind, along with moderator discretion. We took some time to verify these claims as a team, and have had no choice but to take action:Īs of today, Toontown Offline discussion is now banned from the subreddit. Toontown Online is meant to be a family friendly game, and that family friendly image must be maintained to respect Disney's image, as well as keep the younger folks in our community safe. Unfortunately, it recently came to our attention that some very harmful and dangerous things were being said on Toontown Offline, which were encouraged by its staff members. Disney taking action on any of the private servers on any given day is a very real possibility if we do not remain vigilant and make sure that the community is as family friendly as it can possibly be coming from the various private servers. We've all realized over the course of our many years together as a community, that putting our best foot forward and being the best possible examples of private servers we could be is a very high priority. ![]()
